    Extracurricular activity is a complementary of the requirement and interest in the student academic development. Extracurricular learning styles can be implemented in the form of informal where it can provide effective learning experiences to the students. In extracurricular development, every activity has its own goals and interests that can influence the students to participate in the particular activities. Nowadays, students are more likely to engage or spending their time with unbeneficial activities or isolate themselves in the virtual world. Several studies have been conducted and found that there are factors influence or prevent the students from participating in the extracurricular activities they intended to. These factors have been categorical into three main constraints; structural constraints, intrapersonal constraints, and interpersonal constraints. These main constraints referred to many factors that can influence student participation in extracurricular activities

    Kokurikulum merupakan satu daripada komponen yang penting dalam pembangunan kurikulum di mana antara peranannya ialah mensosialisasikan, membina semangat cintakan negara dan membangunkan potensi diri di kalangan pelajar. Namun begitu, belum ada kajian berkaitan peranan kokurikulum dalam membangunkan pekerja yang berpotensi di industri. Satu daripada indikator potensi kebolehpasaran ialah menguasai kemahiran generik. Oleh itu, tujuan penyelidikan ini dijalankan ialah untuk mengenal pasti sama ada kokurikulum yang dilaksanakan di politeknik Malaysia, menerapkan kemahiran generik bagi menyediakan pelajar sebagai bakal pekerja yang berpotensi memenuhi keperluan pihak industri di Malaysia. Reka bentuk penyelidikan yang digunakan ialah penyelidikan deskriptif. Data diperoleh menerusi tiga instrumen iaitu soa\ selidik, protoko\ temu bual dan jadual pemerhatian. Responden dipilih dalam kalangan pihak industri, pensyarah, pelajar dan graduan politeknik. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan kemahiran generik secara signifikan telah berjaya diterapkan menerusi kokurikulum di politeknik. Dapatan juga menunjukkan graduan yang berkemahiran generik ada\ah diperlukan oleh pihak industri di Malaysia. Namun begitu, dapatan kajian telah mengenal pasti tahap penerapan kemahiran generik menerusi kokurikulum masih rendah secara relatif dengan tahap keperluan kemahiran generik oleh pihak industri. Di samping itu, terdapat kesilapan padanan secara relatif antara fokus utama penerapan kemahiran generik menerusi kokurikulum di politeknik dengan keperluan utama kemahiran generik di industri. Oleh itu, beberapa cadangan te\ah dikemukakan untuk menangani masalah tersebut. Antaranya ialah mempelbagaikan lagi jenis kokurikulum yang ditawarkan kepada pelajar, menerapkan kemahiran penyelesaian masalah dan membuat keputusan sebagai kemahiran utama yang dibangunkan menerusi kokurikulum termasuklahjuga mewujudkan sistem penghargaan dan penganugerahan oleh institusi kepada pelajar yang menyertai aktiviti kokurikulum

    Teaching and learning mathematics and science in English in primary schools in the state of Johor, Malaysia

    This article attempts to highlight the opinions of the public on the effectiveness of the use of English in teaching and learning Mathematics and Science (PPSMI) in primary schools in Johor. After nearly six years of its implementation, some people found out that the students have not demonstrated a good command of the language and the acquisition of knowledge of Mathematics and Science is seen to be declining. The teachers also do not seem to adapt well in the implementation. A group of respondents from among the headmasters and headmistress have given their views through a questionnaire and structured interview that showed the government's intention to strengthen the English language in teaching and learning Mathematics and Science did not show an impressive result. Thus, the study suggests that the government can try to give an option of using both languages in the implementation of this policy

    Dalam kajian ini, keberkesanan penggunaan peta konsep dalam perisian kursus telah diselidiki. Perisian ini digunakan dalam pengajaran tajuk "Lambaian Kaabah" bagi mata pelajaran pengetahuan Agama Islam Tingkatan empat. Sampel terdiri daripada 82 orang murid Tingkatan empat sebuah sekolah menengah di Pulau Pinang. Terdapat 39 orang murid dalam kumpulan eksperimen dan 43 orang murid dalam kumpulan kawalan. Kumpulan eksperimen diajar dengan menggunakan perisian kursus yang mengandungi peta konsep. Kumpulan kawalan pula diajar dengan menggunakan perisian kursus yang tidak mengandungi peta konsep. Pengajaran telah dilaksanakan bagi lima sesi pengajaran. Ujian ANCOVA digunakan untuk menentukan kesan signifkan ujian pos. Skor min kumpulan eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada skor min kumpulan kawalan. Ujian-t sampel berpasangan digunakan untuk analisis data bagi soalan kajian kedua. Skor min bagi peta konsep ujian pos lebih tinggi daripada skor min peta konsep ujian pra. Kajian ini mencadangkan bahawa perisian kursus yang mengandungi peta konsep adalah berkesan untuk pengajaran tajuk ini

    Technical and vocational education sustainable development

    Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) play an important role in shaping human labor so can meet the job market in the industry. Ministry of Education (MOE) has identified the importance of TVE to ensure the country's aspiration to become a developed country by 2020 is achieved. The transformation TVE which are being implemented by the Ministry of Education should be supported by all parties involved. While transformation efforts to upgrade the vocational schools and vocational colleges restructuring subject vocational secondary schools implemented, the strategy of sustainable development in the TVE should be given attention accordingly. There are seven strategies of sustainable development that has been introduced by (UNEVOC) to be discussed in this paper to help mainstream the program TVE in the country. Seven strategies have been outlined by the International Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNEVOC) will be discussed, namely: (i) Support and the country's vision, (ii) Support to investigate the state police TVE, (iii) Guidelines for planning and implementation, (Iv) Capacity building and training programs, (v) Support the development of materials, resources and learning equipment, (vi) Relationships and partners in TVE, and (vii) monitoring, evaluation and research continues

    Working satisfaction as a teacher

    Teachers evaluate their roles in their school environment by what they feel as they go to work every day. The ability of workers to adapt to the work environment is often associated with job satisfaction. Job satisfaction is urgently needed to provide comfort in performing tasks that have been entrusted to the teachers. It would be achieved if all requirement are met and it would indirectly increase the motivated the teachers. Nowadays there are few signs which indicate that job satisfaction has occurred degradation. The stages of adaptation at the workplace often vary which will result in job dissatisfaction and thus the job performance is affected. Apart from that, findings of several studies has found that the key factors affecting job satisfaction to teachers is the development of motivation, attitude and behavior of an individual and the emotional stress due to workload and their internal problem. Job satisfaction is also closely related to the working-class pressure. The working pressure is always identified as factors leading to low production yield, absenteeism, resignations and poor health of workers. An individual who has high job satisfaction will focus on his career, will be not easily tired, hardworking, highly motivated and will strive to improve work performance. Aspects of job satisfaction is also associated with the psychological aspects inseparable from the concept of motivation. The emphasis on job satisfaction is very important because it will indirectly affect individual performance and contribution to the organization. Someone who do not get job satisfaction will be tempted to neglect their duty and does not carry out the mandate that was given to him

    Effect of co-curricular activities on academic achievements of special educations students with learning disabilities

    This research investigated the effect of co-curricular activities on academic achievements of special educations students with learning disabilities in SMK Permata Jaya, Rengit, Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia. 20 students from special educations class session 2015 were selected for moderate level syllabus and another 20 students were using high level syllabus constituted a study sample. Each level of students taught by the same teacher was divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental groups were involved in co-curricular activities and the control groups did not participate in any co-curricular activity. They were two types of co-curricular activities which are physical activities and the other was like debates, speeches and drama. Raw scores of the students from the subject of Science test made up data for the study. Data analysis involved the use of mean scores and t-test of significant difference between two independent group means scores, supported by F-test of homogeneity of two independent group variances It was found that co-curricular activities had significant effect on academic achievements of the experimental groups

    Generic skill is very important especially in the globalization era. Dominating this skill will give an advantage especially to students who are going to involve in working field. This research was conducted to determine student’s awareness level on the importance of generic skill, and the effective teaching and learning methods to improve generic skill acquisition based on student’s perception. 42 students of Diploma in Electrical Engineering with Education from Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, UTHM get involved in this research emprising 25 male and 17 female students. The instrument used in this research is a set of questionnaire. The data were processed through Statistic Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 11.0.There were adopted the analysis descriptive statistics technique using score mean, percentage and standard deviation. The research finding showed level of awareness on theimportance of generic skills among final year student of Diploma in Electrical Engineering with Education’s is at high level. Beside that, based on student’s perception, an effectiveness of teaching and learning methods is problem based-learning
